Vasyl Hryshchanka, Zhodzina executive committee
On 01.10.2009, the parents of Yanka Lapitski received a response to their latest appeal from the executive committee of Zhodzina. The document was once again signed by the chair of the executive committee Vasil Hryshchanka alone.
According to Aliaksei Lapitski, despite the fact that the letter from Mr. Hryshchanka noted that it was made in response to the applicants’ appeal, there were no specific answers to the questions raised by the Lapitskis.

Local authorities are clearing the situation, however they are doing this from the position of psychological pressure. On 26 August 2009 Aliaksej Lapitski had a 30-minute conversation with Vital Shulzhyk, a deputy director of Zhodzina education department. The conversation concerned the Belarusian-language education of Janka Lapitski, who’s inherent right on free obligatory general education in Belarusian language in Gymnasia №1 in Zhodzina was violated for two times during the last 4 years by the actions of local authorities. Then all of them try to understand what is better to do further.. – to allow or not to allow…, what will be the final order? We have received a number of Christmas and New Year greetings, including a letter from a Homel opposition activist Piatro Kuzniatsou and a human rights expert from Zhodzina Aliaksei Lapitski.
In his New Year congratulation, Piatro Kuzniatsou said that ‘despite the fact 2008 was a leap year, which is said to bring bad luck, there hade been a lot of progress in many initiatives.’ He also wished Belausians a real wave of ‘warmth’.

The unprecedented trial that is about to commence in Zhodzina is likely to turn into an ambiguous and highly complicated venture. A number of local human rights activists lodged a claim against several plainclothes policemen, who disturbed public order and violated the rights of Zhodzina residents during the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian People’s Republic on 23 March, 2008. The victims include journalist Dzianis Borykau and the BPF’s local office leaders Sviatlana and Aliaksei Lapitskis.
