The UN Human Rights Committee’s statement on Belarus’ violations of its international obligations by executing two death sentences is “injurious”, Belarusian MFA spokesperson Andrei Savinykh said on 28 July.
On 14 July Uladzimir Malei, member of the Human Rights Center Viasna from Malaryta, lodged a complaint with the Malaryta District Procuracy concerning unlawful actions of the police officers who had detained him on 13 July in the evening.

We, the undersigned human rights organizations of the Republic of Belarus and individual human rights defenders in personal capacity, would like to inform you about facts of pressure on lawyers by the executive authorities of Belarus, particularly, the withdrawal of licenses imposed on lawyers Uladzimir TOUSTSIK, Tamara HARAYEVA, Aleh AHEYEU and Tatsiana AHEYEVA, something threatening an access of their clients to an effective remedy and retarding the course of justice.
Belarusian court fined the human rights activist Leanid Svetsik 30 million Belarusian rubles (about 12 thousand dollars). The sentence was imposed for that he had supposedly sent to various residents of the city of Vitsebsk threatening letters on behalf of the unregistered organization “Russian National Unity”. But every conscientious person in Vitsebsk, familiar with the substance of the issue will tell you that Mr. Svetsik could not do so, only because he provided legal assistance to all people who received such letters by mail.
