On 18 August, Vasil Paliakou, chair of UCP Homel regional office, was officially charged with arbitrariness during the 26 July rally marking the 20th anniversary of Belarusian independence. The police say other participants of the event will be prosecuted under civil procedures.
Minsk Maskouski Court fined Mikail Pashkevich, activist of the ‘Havary Praudu’ civil campaign, BYR 1,400,000 for staging an unauthorized rally on the International Youth Day, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.

Leaders of Belarusian opposition have addressed the UN Security Council with a request to conduct an international investigation of abductions of well-known Belarusians.

Higher educational officials act as if nothing happened after they have violated Zhodzina Belarusian-speaking teenager’s right to education. It’s been almost a year since Yanka Lapitsky forcedly hasn’t been getting education in the only gymnasium in the region – Gymnasium #1.
