The Belarusian Assembly of Pro-Democratic NGOs released a statement, condemning the mass repressions against the peaceful protesters, detained on 19 and 20 December in Minsk.

“We believe the detentions and the use of violence against journalists, a wave of searches in the apartments of opposition activists and the offices of NGOs to be deliberate actions aimed at distracting attention from the registered facts of vote rigging”, says the statement.

Instructions for Short-term Observers

On 30 November officers of the Ashmiany customs office examined the personal belongings of the Homel human rights defender Leanid Sudalenka who was returning home from Vilnius. They confiscated from him 10 copies of Instructions for Short-term Observers at Presidential Election of Belarus. The human rights defender considers the confiscation of the manuals illegal and stated it in his complaint to the head of the State Customs Committee, which was filed by him on 1 December.

The well-known Belarusian lawyer Hary Pahaniayla filed an application to the Supreme Court of Belarus demanding to relieve President Aliaksandr Lukashenka of his post and also to annul his registration as a presidential candidate. These demands are based on ideas that A.Lukashenka, as has been reported since 2001 by independent Belarusian mass media and since 2010 – Russian mass media, suffers from mental illness.
