Local authorities are clearing the situation, however they are doing this from the position of psychological pressure. On 26 August 2009 Aliaksej Lapitski had a 30-minute conversation with Vital Shulzhyk, a deputy director of Zhodzina education department. The conversation concerned the Belarusian-language education of Janka Lapitski, who’s inherent right on free obligatory general education in Belarusian language in Gymnasia №1 in Zhodzina was violated for two times during the last 4 years by the actions of local authorities. Siarhej Housha
Human rights defender from Baranavichy Siarhej Housha at last got the documents of registration of his property in the Belarusian language. Starting from March, 2009 he has been striving for his constitutional right on the usage of the Belarusian language in documentation to be realized.
After numerous appeals and claims to various state bodies in June 2009 Mr. Housha at last received a response to his appeal from Belarusian State Committee for the administration of property.
Mr. Housha appealed to the Committee after he had failed to get the documents of registration of his property in the Belarusian language when registering ownership of his parent’s property.

It is obvious that in Zhodzina region “socialist competition” of law enforcement bodies and nomenclature of Zhodzina and Smaliavichi takes place. The address of representatives of Human Rights Center Viasna with the demand to stop the unlawful persecution of the Belarusian-speaking soldiers including F.Viachorka has been forwarded again – this time to Homel inter-garrison military procuracy. The human rights defenders were officially informed about it by lieutenant-colonel A.Kot, first deputy military prosecutor of Belarus.
Bear in mind that on 27 July the human rights defenders Ales Bialiatski, Valiantsin Stefanovich and Uladzimir Labkovich addressed the defense minister of the Republic of Belarus Leanid Maltsau and the prosecutor general Ryhor Vasilevich with the demand to put an end to the unlawful persecution and pressurization of F.Viachorka who was serving in military unit 48694 in Mazyr, as well as other soldiers who were speaking the Belarusian language.
